Symposium Seminar (Emerging Technologies in Health)

On March 7, 2014 I have attended the talk of Ms. Carmen Tan, she talked about the Surface Plasmon Resonance. To be honest most of the things that she have told us and discussed to us are very science oriented terms and topic, even though I am already in my college years I don’t even get to catch most of the things she have been talking about. The technology that she had discussed to us is to be used in the medical industry. She told us that the technology is able to help in producing a medicine.
After Ms. Carmen Tan’s talk the next speaker was Dr. Ma. Angela T. Cumagun, she then proceeded to talk about What’s new in the Skin tightening lasers. As a student this isn’t really applicable to me but getting to know of such technology is a good thing since it would be able to help us when we get to the industry. Knowing of such technology and its capabilities would give us an idea in using its features in other industry field.
The last speaker for the day was Dr. Gil Nonato C. Santos, he talked about nanotechnology. Nanotechnology has been a hot topic in the medical industry due to its capabilities and how people foresee the things that it can do, not only does the people able to see the capabilities of nanotechnology but also they are able to see what the limitations of these technology as well as the side effect of using such powerful technology. A sample of how people perceive of nanotechnology is the movie G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, it is a film during the year 2009. The film is mainly about how nanotechnology can be used as a medicine as well as making a person immortal, this is definitely a positive effect for the human society but then the effects can also be used by the human’s greedy desire and eventually make them a villain.
