On March 8, 2014 morning was the
symposium seminar for the emerging technologies in the field of health, while
in the afternoon the seminar was for the emerging technologies in the field of
business. The first speaker for the day was Dr. San Andres, he talked about the
re-mineralization and is concentrating in the teeth or for dental purposes.
When the talk flowed to the emerging technology part he then talked about GC
Tooth Moose, this is entirely an alien kind of technology to me since I only go
to my dentist when there is an appointment with the doctor that the doctor
himself sets. Knowing of such technology is really a good thing since it is concerned
in improving our health, health is entirely the most important thing in our
live as when we aren’t healthy then we would just limit our own capabilities.
The second speaker for the day
was, Dr. Eric Punzalan, he was talking about the chemistry and physics of
modern medicine. On the start when he was talking about mercury fillings and
that it is not really dangerous to us, I was like “what?” because ever since
before the thermometer that we use to measure our body temperature has a
mercury in it and is said to be very dangerous so we shouldn’t really break it
and let the mercury loose in our house, so after hearing this talk from Dr.
Punzalan about the mercury fillings I felt like my whole life was a lie. He
then proceeded to x-ray and this is also the same as mercury as I didn’t know
that getting an x-ray is actually bad for your health since it uses ionizing
radiation. Gene therapy though on the other hand felt like it was an awesome
topic to be discussed, due to the fact that I am a fan of anime and in the gundam
series in the gundam seed there was these huge difference from being a natural
human being and a coordinator (gene modified human being) as the capabilities
of a coordinator are far better than a normal human being, with this in mind it
was exciting to listen to the gene therapy although it is not yet doable in our
current generation.
The third speaker for the day
was, Dr. Jerome Palaganas, he talked about the top technology trend in the
healthcare industry. He talked about how smart t-shirt could be of help in
people doing their exercises and as well as for athletes’ training which can be
done in our generation. But then since we are years behind the technology from
the 1st world countries, we do not have this technologies yet in our
country. Stem cell is also an interesting topic to be discussed as this could
not only help improve our health but also can be used for other purposes like
cloning of animals for consumption. Genome Editing is also the same as the Gene
therapy that was discussed by the previous speaker, which is interesting too as
we get to learn about the opinion of two different people.
The afternoon session’s first
speaker was Mr. Mike Garcia, he talked about data warehousing. He discussed
about how data warehousing is entirely different from data base and that
integrating different databases to compare and contrast the different data gathered
would be able to make the data that you have consistent and would have quality,
as well as save your time when you search for data in your warehouse, you would
also have historical intelligence and better business intelligence.
The second speaker was Ms.
Cecile Ang and she was talking about the sweep card (a card that is able to
integrate different kinds of cards that would associate with their company),
what she was doing was entirely commercializing their own product even though
what it only does is integrating different kinds of card and is not something
new.
The third speaker was Mr. Celmer
Santos, he talked about the different technologies that could be reached in the
market. He talked about chipped human which can be related to the Total Recall
movie as they had technologies implanted in a human body, as can be seen in the
protagonist that there was a device implanted in his hand so that he could be
tracked by the authorities. QR codes as used in Korea are a much better
technology to be used in buying things and checking things out than the bar
code.
