Business Intelligence

On March 20, 2014 the business intelligence seminar was about the energy industry. The topic was really not that new to me because I've been hearing a lot about the business intelligence, but then I still learned a lot during the talk, how to use it, how it is obtained, and what are the capabilities that can be done with it. Business Intelligence are used to help in doing decision making. The talk was about how a person could manipulate the big data in order to help themselves in making decisions regarding how they would be able to improve or enhance the technologies in energy.

On March 28, 2014 the business intelligence was about the environmental science, Just like the seminar before, I didn't really know anything about it but then I learned a lot. In this scenario though I learned a lot about coral reeves and how they have implanted technologies in order to monitor it and help it live more. I learned too that when a coral reef became very colorful that it looks very beautiful, it's death is near. It is a good thing that we've been able to learn about how useful they are not only in terms of providing home for the fishes but also they are the first line of defense of an island from the water.

On March 29, 2014 the seminar was about it governance and solutioning, the talk was mainly about how we are able to use the structure in order to establish strategies, operations and technical decision making process to ensure that information technology is able to be of help the business or organization.

Business Innovation

The first speaker in the afternoon is talking all about fire protection, not only has he covered the details on how to protect one’s self from disasters that is related to fire but also he has covered about the tools and equipment one can use in order to prevent, alarm, take care of the fire if one has occurred. These products that have been discussed are the latest models that they are selling and these are the technologies that are the most current in our country. The second speaker is Mr. Lee Mojado, he was talking about Big Data and that he taught us that big data is a very important for organizations; he also taught us how to use data in order for it to become useful to us. In our generation today, data have been playing an important role in our life and as can be related to the current companies that are the big ones in our world like google they have been able to make use of data in order to earn so much. The third speaker is Ms. Lea Capati, she talked about the country’s MMDA traffic management system and MWSI’s Subic Water Read and Bill Meter. These technologies play a vital role in our lives since we already live in a technology dependent world we need to have a proper and better traffic management system in order to make our lives easier, and for the MWSI it gives us better water service through the use of their technology. Though these helps us in our daily lives, as I have been living my life in these cities, from what I’ve observed these technologies are not enough in order to make our lives easier as these technologies are limited to doing “automated and static” job and since most PUV driver’s don’t follow these rules they are just bypassing these technologies rendering them not totally useless but quite useless than when they deploy traffic enforcers. The last speaker is Mr. Jason Acidre that talked about Inbound Marketing, maybe because our business subjects are light and that we don’t have marketing classes have I learned some new things from this talk. The talk not only focuses on making your marketing skills more efficient but in trying to use some of the technologies then you would be able to sum it up with your marketing skills and then makes it much better.

Health and Business

On March 8, 2014 morning was the symposium seminar for the emerging technologies in the field of health, while in the afternoon the seminar was for the emerging technologies in the field of business. The first speaker for the day was Dr. San Andres, he talked about the re-mineralization and is concentrating in the teeth or for dental purposes. When the talk flowed to the emerging technology part he then talked about GC Tooth Moose, this is entirely an alien kind of technology to me since I only go to my dentist when there is an appointment with the doctor that the doctor himself sets. Knowing of such technology is really a good thing since it is concerned in improving our health, health is entirely the most important thing in our live as when we aren’t healthy then we would just limit our own capabilities.
The second speaker for the day was, Dr. Eric Punzalan, he was talking about the chemistry and physics of modern medicine. On the start when he was talking about mercury fillings and that it is not really dangerous to us, I was like “what?” because ever since before the thermometer that we use to measure our body temperature has a mercury in it and is said to be very dangerous so we shouldn’t really break it and let the mercury loose in our house, so after hearing this talk from Dr. Punzalan about the mercury fillings I felt like my whole life was a lie. He then proceeded to x-ray and this is also the same as mercury as I didn’t know that getting an x-ray is actually bad for your health since it uses ionizing radiation. Gene therapy though on the other hand felt like it was an awesome topic to be discussed, due to the fact that I am a fan of anime and in the gundam series in the gundam seed there was these huge difference from being a natural human being and a coordinator (gene modified human being) as the capabilities of a coordinator are far better than a normal human being, with this in mind it was exciting to listen to the gene therapy although it is not yet doable in our current generation.
The third speaker for the day was, Dr. Jerome Palaganas, he talked about the top technology trend in the healthcare industry. He talked about how smart t-shirt could be of help in people doing their exercises and as well as for athletes’ training which can be done in our generation. But then since we are years behind the technology from the 1st world countries, we do not have this technologies yet in our country. Stem cell is also an interesting topic to be discussed as this could not only help improve our health but also can be used for other purposes like cloning of animals for consumption. Genome Editing is also the same as the Gene therapy that was discussed by the previous speaker, which is interesting too as we get to learn about the opinion of two different people.
The afternoon session’s first speaker was Mr. Mike Garcia, he talked about data warehousing. He discussed about how data warehousing is entirely different from data base and that integrating different databases to compare and contrast the different data gathered would be able to make the data that you have consistent and would have quality, as well as save your time when you search for data in your warehouse, you would also have historical intelligence and better business intelligence.
The second speaker was Ms. Cecile Ang and she was talking about the sweep card (a card that is able to integrate different kinds of cards that would associate with their company), what she was doing was entirely commercializing their own product even though what it only does is integrating different kinds of card and is not something new.

The third speaker was Mr. Celmer Santos, he talked about the different technologies that could be reached in the market. He talked about chipped human which can be related to the Total Recall movie as they had technologies implanted in a human body, as can be seen in the protagonist that there was a device implanted in his hand so that he could be tracked by the authorities. QR codes as used in Korea are a much better technology to be used in buying things and checking things out than the bar code.

Symposium Seminar (Emerging Technologies in Health)

On March 7, 2014 I have attended the talk of Ms. Carmen Tan, she talked about the Surface Plasmon Resonance. To be honest most of the things that she have told us and discussed to us are very science oriented terms and topic, even though I am already in my college years I don’t even get to catch most of the things she have been talking about. The technology that she had discussed to us is to be used in the medical industry. She told us that the technology is able to help in producing a medicine.
After Ms. Carmen Tan’s talk the next speaker was Dr. Ma. Angela T. Cumagun, she then proceeded to talk about What’s new in the Skin tightening lasers. As a student this isn’t really applicable to me but getting to know of such technology is a good thing since it would be able to help us when we get to the industry. Knowing of such technology and its capabilities would give us an idea in using its features in other industry field.
The last speaker for the day was Dr. Gil Nonato C. Santos, he talked about nanotechnology. Nanotechnology has been a hot topic in the medical industry due to its capabilities and how people foresee the things that it can do, not only does the people able to see the capabilities of nanotechnology but also they are able to see what the limitations of these technology as well as the side effect of using such powerful technology. A sample of how people perceive of nanotechnology is the movie G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, it is a film during the year 2009. The film is mainly about how nanotechnology can be used as a medicine as well as making a person immortal, this is definitely a positive effect for the human society but then the effects can also be used by the human’s greedy desire and eventually make them a villain.
